I ask this as a terrain theory...

I ask this as a terrain theory neophyte. My family has all been stricken with the same throat infection in short succession. Am I wrong to assume that terrain theory would say this would be due to a common environmental toxin? Could said toxin be a bacteria or virus?

Terrain answer:

Foreign bacteria could potentially cause irritation, but chemical or food is far more likely. Spicy peppers, spices, inhaled irritants like air fresheners, candles, smoke, etc would be far more likely. Viruses are just dead cellular debris from broken cells.
