Question:

So, we have a boil water notice here in my town in Texas, because of the freeze. Problem with the supply line. I’m new to this Terrain model. What are your thoughts on what’s in the water that we are killing by boiling it?

Terrain answer:

So generally boiling water is recommended to kill any bacteria which comes from unsanitary conditions (i.e may contain human or animal waste). The bacteria itself will not make you sick, we literally are surrounded by bacteria everywhere at all times and cannot help but to ingest it from time to time. But the waste products of bacteria can make us ill, or trigger expulsion symptoms like vomiting or diarrhea. Bacteria produce waste products like acetic acid, ammonia, alcohol, etc and this is what can potentially cause expulsion symptoms.
