Terrain answer:

Swollen taste buds are most often caused by irritation from inappropriate foods like spicy peppers, salt, garlic, herbs or other substances which contain irritating oils, cigarettes, a broken tooth rubbing on the area, hot beverages or foods burning the taste buds or some other form of irritation.
Less commonly they could be a sign of low Iron or b vitamin absorption. If your digestive tract is still healing you may need to increase your consumption of b vitamin or iron rich fruits for a short period to account for the lack of absorption while the digestive tract heals.
